NI Assembly
Welcome to the unOFFICIAL public feedback forum for the Northern Ireland Assembly. http://www.niassembly.gov.uk/
Do you have an idea? Do you recognize a good idea when you see one? We want to hear from you!
We can’t guarantee that the ideas will be seen or even acted on, but you never know!

That the proposed "White Elephant" Stadium is binned...
The Maze was never an appropriate site for a "national" sports stadium. We believe that some of the money proposed for this venture should be distributed equally instead to the GAA/IFA and Ulster Rugby to develop their existing facilities

replace the current Minister for Education
The Minister has made a complete mess of the post-primary transfer test situation, but instead of fixing it, she is picking fights with primary schools and concerned parents. These are parents who have no idea what the Minister is doing. They see no progress being made, and are extremely concerned that their children's education will suffer because of the Minister's inaction.

Reduce public transport costs on all services
Public transport costs are too high. The roads are clogged with cars. And the pollution output is unsustainable. By reducing the cost of public transport and making it difficult for car drivers to reach and park in city centres, you will be helping to reduce the damage on the environment and making our cities and towns better for everyone.

sack the Minister of the Environment
Sammy Wilson is the worst Minister in the Executive. He refuses to set up an Environmental Protection Agency seperate from government interference, he refuses to acknowledge that Climate Change is the biggest threat to the planet and he continues to put his Planning Service workers in an awkward position by lobbying them for planning applications to be passed even though hes their boss and it is a major conflict of interest.

Build the new national stadium at the Maze
The National Stadium should be easily accessible by all citizens of Northern Ireland. Since Lisburn is really just a suburb of Belfast (NI is not big enough to have two cities so close!) building the stadium at the Maze and putting in multiple transport links makes a lot of sense.

Slim down government departments
NI had a large proportion of its working population employed directly or indirectly by the public sector. In order to stimulate a vibrant and sustainable economy we should (aspire to) reduce this proportion to 30% or less.

Open Government Data (APIs, XML, RSS)
We can unleash a wave of civic innovation if we open up government data to the public. The Assembly controls a treasure trove of information. It can also influence or support the opening up of data from government departments by setting an example and showing leadership.
STANDARDIZE, STRUCTURE, and OPEN up this data. Let the default position be OPEN DATA unless there are clear privacy or confidentiality issues involved.

improve the public transport infrastructure
Keep pricing the same if you must but you can't expect to resolve transport issues by just making roads wider. Compared to all other european cities, we have a shambles of a transport system. Commercialise it. Add some internal city buses (like trams) Open up the GPS data from each train and bus. Make the security webcams public. Close off the city centre to cars.

Scrap the whole idea and work for a socialist republic
For socialists and republicans it becomes increasingly clear that the reformist and constitutional approach only prevents the achievement of our goals. Ditch Stormont, oppose unworkable internal settlements. Organise, oppose and fight for the republic.
